SM Spotlight: Tree Shepherds

If you need tree care services, look no further than Tree Shepherds! Its highly-skilled and trained team will make your yard look its best in no time.

Tree Shepherds is a family owned and operated business dedicated to providing quality services to the people of Denton County and the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Scott Geer, the founder and master certified arborist of Tree Shepherds, originally started the company as a consulting business for tree care in 2009 and gradually grew it to the successful business it is today.

He was joined by his son Clayton in 2011 and later by his other son Ethan in 2013.

Five years later, Tree Shepherds converted from a sole proprietorship to an LLC and Scott, Clayton and Ethan currently own the business together.

In addition to its three owners, there are 15 other people that make up the team at Tree Shepherds. There are six certified arborists, two office administrators, two PhD technicians, a client healthcare worker, sales representatives and more.

When asked what his favorite part of the job is, Ethan Geer said, “growing the business. Putting systems and processes in place and making it scalable.”

Its services include consulting, tree diagnosis, appraisals, any tree surgery steps including pruning, removals, bolting, stump grinding and anything regarding cutting on a tree. It also does plant to plant health care which consists of injecting trees if it has a particular disease or insect issue, root flare exposure and tree fertilization.

“We take care of anything regarding trees,” Ethan Geer said.

Currently, 95 percent of the customers Tree Shepherds works with are residential. Many of these are long-time and repeat customers, however, the company has been able to continuously grow its business by 20 to 30 percent every year since opening

“Almost all of our business is by word of mouth,” Ethan Geer said.

Tree Shepherds works hard to stand apart from other companies by truly focusing on providing quality tree work. Its team is made up of highly skilled and qualified team members with one certified arborist on every crew.

They work hard to stay up to date on the latest research to effectively provide the best service at all times

“Our customers are going to get a premium experience,” Ethan Geer said.

In the future, Tree Shepherds plans to continue growing its   business with more customers. Further down the road, it would also like to open satellite locations, as many employees have long commutes, and start a machine building shop. This shop would make machinery to serve the arbor and tree care world.

Tree Shepherds is committed to being active in the community as well. It is a proud member of the Denton Chamber of Commerce and the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce. It also supports local organizations such as Keep Denton Beautiful, and Ropes and Ranch.
