The best athletes are the full package, a combination of genetic gifts, athletic prowess and serious work ethic. Despite this, they encounter the same challenges the rest of us do, including sadness, loss and depression.


How are athletes able to keep their focus when times get tough, whether it be on the playing field or at home? Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson swears by a concept called neutral thinking.


We all are familiar with optimism and pessimism, or the concepts of positive and negative thinking. Neutral thinking strays from that – you can think of it as a middle ground, or a strategy with an absence of negativity. By shedding your negative emotional baggage, neutral thinking allows you to face your current situation with greater mental clarity.
