In a day and age when mindfulness and meditation are popular pursuits, it would seem that anger is out of style. But not so quick, says psychologist and researcher Ryan Martin, who has devoted his career to this fiery emotion. Anger can actually be a good thing – it’s healthy and it motivates you.

“The same way your thirst motivates you to get a drink of water, the same way your hunger motivates you to get a bite to eat, your anger can motivate you to respond to injustice,” explains Martin, in a recent Tedx Talk.

That’s not to say anger isn’t something we have to learn to regulate. After all, not all anger is created equal.
