Fifteen people die in North America
each day because a shortage of transplantable organs
prevents them from getting the transplant they desperately
need. And, every one hour and 45 minutes an additional
name is added to the transplant waiting list. This
situation may sound bleak, but we each have the ability
to make a difference.
Saving another person's life is one
of the most profound things we can do and one of the
most important legacies we can leave behind. At Schooley
Mitchell, we understand the importance of saving lives
and that is why we are committed to encouraging and
facilitating organ donation through our Legacy of
Life campaign. The Legacy of Life campaign is a comprehensive
program that promotes organ donation across North
America by providing organ donor card information
through diverse promotional and educational strategies,
sponsorships and partnerships.
Becoming an organ donor is a simple
process that involves two steps:
1. Signing your organ donor card.
2. Talking to your family about your decision.
While the process is simple, the decision to be an
organ donor needs to be carefully considered and well
informed. This site is designed to provide you with
organ card information in order to make the right
decision about organ donation.

"On July 1, 1992, I received
my heart transplant at age 34. What a shock it was,
being told I needed a heart transplant! I had always
been healthy. It stunned not only myself, but my husband,
parents, family, friends, and co-workers. The fact
that I needed a transplant affected all these people's
lives -- not only for the fact that I was young, but
I was in my sixth month of pregnancy when diagnosed
with cardiomyopathy.
Several weeks after being diagnosed,
I gave birth to a healthy, 2 lb. 15 oz baby girl.
My condition deteriorated, and five weeks later I
received my heart transplant.
The transplant not only gave my
daughter the opportunity to know her mother, but it
gave me the gift of life. I now can raise the daughter
I always wanted.
My family and I know that if it wasn't
for the gift of love from a family I had never met,
I would not be here today, and my daughter would grow
up not knowing her mother's love. The donor and their
family will always hold a special place in our hearts,
and we will always think of them with love "
